2008/2009 Fees and Charges

NO MORE FINES!!!

Is there any change to library fees and charges from last year?

Yes.  There are no charges for overdue books or for renewing.  However, if you have an item which is more than two weeks overdue you won’t be able to borrow more items until it is returned (or you have paid to replace it if you cannot find it).  We have changed the loan periods for some items.  DVD’s, CD’s & Videos are now issued for one week; all other items are still issued for three weeks.  You can renew an item once.

Charges for Internet use remain unchanged.

Is there a membership fee?

No.  Anyone living in the Rangitikei is entitled to register as a library borrower and receive a borrower’s card without charge.

Is there a limit on how much I can borrow?

Yes.  You may not have more than ten items, out at any one time.  This limit relates to an individual, not a family – and everyone is able to have their own card.  If you are using one card for your family, this is a good time for each person to get their own card.  DVDs are limited to five per family.

How do I get something I can’t find on the shelf?

Please ask.  The book, magazine, CD etc. may be being mended, at one of the other libraries, or borrowed by somebody else.  You can place a reserve on any such book – at no charge if the book is on the shelves at another library; or at $1 if the book is out to another borrower.

You can also arrange to borrow a book from a library outside the Rangitikei.  The usual fee for this interloan service is $5.20, but it can be more depending on the charges set in the other library.  Library staff will get these details and check with you before confirming the loan request.  And you can also suggest that a particular book is purchased for the libraries.

What about new books?

New adult fiction and non-fiction books are distributed across the three libraries and displayed for a week before they can be borrowed.  During that time you may place a reserve on any book (at $1 per book), which means you get it sooner.  Large print books and children’s books go straight on the shelves for immediate borrowing.

What parts of the collection can I borrow?

Apart from reference books and selected New Zealand books, there are no restrictions.  So, school students needing to use adult non-fiction books for schoolwork may take them out, and adults wanting to take out picture books to read to their young children are free to do so.

Do I have to pay to use EPIC?

No, you can access the EPIC databases in the libraries without charge.  EPIC is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the library website, www.rangitikeilibrary.org.nz .

What about teachers?

An increase in the number of items borrowed and a longer borrowing term is available for teachers wanting to use books in a classroom.  The same applies to any adult who provides home schooling for children.  This borrowing is recorded on a special card, distinct from personal borrowing by teachers for recreational reading or to improve knowledge on a topic.

What else do I need to know?

Remember:

·         All items more than two weeks overdue will incur a charge for replacement of the item, you will not be able to use your card until the fees are paid or the items are returned.

·         you can renew an item. by phone or email, (see over the page for contact details), but only if nobody else has reserved it;

·         there are after-hours return slots at all the libraries if you can’t visit while they are open;

·         you can return books to any of the libraries.
