Frank Nicol's diary - November 1944
For the week beginning 13th November 1944.
The work diary of Frank Nicol, Acting County Clerk, Rangitikei County Council:
Harold Hastings Richardson, 1872-1944 was appointed Rangitikei County Clerk in 1893, and he continued in that role until his death, 51 years later, on 21 September 1944. Work diaries supplied by Miller and Springhall in Wanganui survive in the Council’s archives for 1934-35 and 1937-39. Richardson stopped his entries abruptly (and without explanation) on 20 June 1935, and there are sporadic entries only in 1937 and 1938. He wrote nothing in the 1939 diary, but it was put to use by Frank Nicol, the County’s Accountant, who was appointed Acting Clerk to succeed Richardson after his death.

Finished up pay.
Friction over Ma with M & G.
Rang [Chair] K.W.D[alrymple] re Rehabilitation Sub Committees – he suggested ring[ing] [Councillors] W Doole and Dalziell.
Wednesday, 15 November 1944
Webb – W[anganui] R[angitikei] E[lectric] P[ower] B[oard] rang to say cable for K.B.P to cost £41. As S & RM away, I authorised purchase. Price not main consideration.
Rang [Councillor] R G Dalziell – he suggested Stuart for Ohing[aiti] agreed to Shaw for M[an]g[a]w[ek]a.
Rang [Councillor] W Doole – he says would ring [Cr] V Smith re Mgwa – read extracts from [Wanganui] Chronicle re Hunterville T[own] B[oard].
Applied for m[otor] fuel license for 3 gallons.
Bought rough C[ash] B[ook] for Imprest A/c.
Thursday, 16 November 1944
Visits from J Craigmyle and D J Wilkie re arrears of rates.
Craigmyle suggested suing Hiroti immediately. Fenwicke suggested sending demands first, to H[iroti], as no demands have yet been made for recent rates.
Discussed R… Claims and Elections.
Land Sales Court agreed to purchase of section.
Friday, 17 November 1944
Wrote [to] Waimarino County re nox[ious] weeds.
Sent demands to Hiroti Bros, for rates – saw Mr Ladley.

Went to Terrace St in morn[ing].
