The work diary of Harold Richardson, County Clerk, Rangitikei County Council:

 

Harold Hastings Richardson, 1872-1944 was appointed County Clerk in 1893, and he continued in that role until his death, 51 years later.

 

 

Monday, 17 September 1934

 

Busy day completing returns etc re unemployment.

 

Had forms prepared for meeting of the Council in connection with various matters. 

 

 

Tuesday, 18 September 1934

 

Mair* and Dukeson* in office.

 

Sent in the Main Highways claims.

 

Sent cheque and return to Wanganui City Council re heavy traffic license fees.

 

Posted out copies [of] minutes and notices of meetings to the Councillors etc. 

 

 

Wednesday, 19 September 1934

Thursday, 20 September 1934

 

Office until 10 am when went to Wanganui for the day. 

 

Called at the office in the evening. 

 

 

Friday, 21 September 1934

 

Busy day [with] unemployment.

 

Court day.

 

Judgement in rates.

 

Fowler’s* case dismissed against J H Mansfield. 

 

 

Saturday, 22 September 1934

 

Busy morning [with] unemployment.

 

Dukeson in.

 

Fowler went [to] Taihape and took Jackson.

 

Fine day. 

 

Rang Mair [and] arranged re the Maungaraupi[?] M[ain] H[ighway] claim that items for labour be omitted and all other items claimed for.

 

Office closed in afternoon.

*Sydney Mair was County Engineer, retiring 1947.  He began his employment with the County in 1899.

*Olive Oldfield was Office Typist

*Frank Nicol, Accountant

*Rod McKenzie was Assistant Accountant

*Richard Dukeson was the County’s Overseer in the Southern part of the District

*G F Robinson, Kakariki Plant Manager

*Ken Waring Dalrymple was County Chairman 1929-1950.  He was first elected to the County in 1917.
